If you can convince someone to play with you, either by buying the game or screen sharing, go for that first. If that excites you enough, you should be able to enjoy playing solo. All I can say is do a bit more research into the game, either physical or digital, and figure out for yourself if first of all it's a game you think you'll enjoy. I have played about 50/50 solo and multiplayer. I wouldn't be ready to recommend this game to someone who plans to play solo, and from the sounds of it hasn't played Gloomhaven before, but it is still a very fun way to play. (Since each character has their own hidden tasks, and gold/loot isn't always shared) It feels like a bit of a different game due to this, since the standard game is semi-competitive and co-operative, whereas one player is full co-operative. Like a lot of board games with a one player option, the one player mode is simply taking control of 2 or more characters, as opposed to 1. In summation: the card mechanics mean there are a lot of ways to waste your time and not many ways to have fun. So if you lose you've basically just wasted your afternoon/evening. Or it was great and cool, but I drew the miss card so fuck me, I guess.Īdd in the fact that there's a lot of ways to lose cards from your hand, (which means losing the scenario), means that there are a lot of ways to lose without doing anything particularly fun or cool and very few ways to win.Īnd losing means you just replay the scenario there's no advancement or anything until you beat it you're just kinda stuck narratively and mechanically until you figure it out or get lucky. And then when the opportunity to use something cool did come up, it either wasn't optimal, too risky, or I had already llst the card. Most cards are only situationally cool, so I didn't feel like I was doing anything particularly special most of the time. Losing options almost always feels bad, unless you get something cool out of it. /r/GamePhysics - Clips of game physics shining and glitchingĭesign based on /r/FlatBlue created by /u/creesch./r/gaming4gamers - middle ground between purely-for-fun and more serious subreddits./r/GamingLeaksAndRumours - Leaks and Rumors.Posting unmarked spoilers will result in removal and warning, and posting spoilers with malicious intent will result in a ban.
